Overview
Our client Churchill Downs requested a custom betting app that could be used on The TwinSpires Edge blog site. The goal was to implement a free-to-play betting solution widget that they could place inside specific blog articles related to upcoming sporting events. When writing NFL articles they wanted to provide their users with a free betting app related to that specific sporting event. The FreePlay widget did just that.
The Problem
Our challenge was creating a solution that could update the results of an event or game within moments of it finishing. These results would then need to be posted dynamically and also update the leaderboard.
The Solution
We utilized real-time technology to listen to streaming updates, all running on serverless technology to enable seamless scaling and always-on operation. This ensured zero downtime to never miss an update or a score.
Design
Our design requirements had to include the ability to embed this widget into existing responsive blog articles, but also allow for a native mobile version. For this reason, we used a Mobile-First design approach. With Mobile-First in mind, we worked towards a clean interface that was easy to navigate for all users.
