Overview

Stay Plugged In is the premier esports recruiting platform for college scholarships, providing opportunities for students to compete in front of a network of hundreds of college esports programs with the potential to earn scholarships. Stay Plugged In is the go-to source for collegiate and high school recruiting opportunities.

The Problem

The original Stay Plugged In website had been built in-house and had served its purpose in the early days. As they continued to grow and recruit more colleges and players, the site felt slow and needed an overhaul. Without the technical knowledge and design skills required to make the changes, they contacted us for help.

The Solution

After meeting with their team to better understand the scope, they hired us for a website discovery. After a couple of weeks of throughout research and planning, we recommended a complete site rebuild using an updated technology stack:

Next.js

Handled both statically generated and dynamic pages, along with dynamic user-generated content, all running with React and Typescript.

Hasura

Scalable, secure and performant application server using GraphQL running on a production scale PostgreSQL database. Cloud-based hosting ensured high availability, monitoring and simple scaling.

Auth0

Enterprise-grade identity service ensuring user data stays secure while enabling role and permissions management.

Vercel

Powerful CI/CD platform and Content Delivery Network which enabled static content to be accessed quickly from anywhere while automating build deployments and image optimizations.

Design

Carolina Esports Hub (CEH) also requested a new fresh look for the Stay Plugged In site. Our design team worked closely with their team to bring their vision to life. Using a combination of Slack & Miro as our communication platforms, it was easy to clearly collaborate on ideas with our clients. Designs were approved in Miro and implemented quickly thereafter. In collaboration with CEH we melded the world of esports with a clean aesthetic and modern look. We strived towards creating an intuitive user interface, while also ensuring the site was accessible to all users.
